OŠ Pušća (Primary School Pušća) is a state school situated in Donja Pušća, a village near Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. It ́s a primary public school for pupils 6 to 15 years old. All together we have 314 students and 44 teachers. Donja Pušća is a quiet, suburban part of Zagreb where many young families have moved to live a more peaceful life, away from the city noise. Many people own a house. The majority of people from Donja Pušća commute to work to Zagreb or Zaprešić. However, due to the recession that has caused severe difficulties in Croatia in the last couple of years, many people have lost their jobs. The situation in small towns is especially difficult. At present, there are 241 students in our main school and 73 students in our branch school. There are students with special educational needs, such as students suffering from dyslexia and dysgraphia. Several students have been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder (ADHD and ADD). In addition, a number of children
from Bosnia and Herzegovina attend our school. They are often faced with adjustment difficulties. Other national minorities in our region include Serbs, Muslims, Ukrainians, and Albanians. All our classrooms are equipped with computers, TV sets and DVD players. The school also has laptops and LCD projectors that the teachers freely use for their lessons. Moreover, students can use the Internet at the school library and in the computers room. Our school aims to provide students with the basic learning tools that they need in order to learn more and become active EU citizens. Our school is well equipped with ICT equipment including tablets, smart-boards and PC-s for use in class. We are a school known as a non-typical Croatian school. The reason for that is the fact that students are the center of all our activities in school. We have a great teacher staff which is taking good care of our pupils. We often go with our kids to the cinema, theatre, various educational and fun trips, we visit all parts of our beautiful country. For them we organize sports and music competitions, costume balls, dancing evenings etc. In general, we want them to be happy and help them to become good and honest people. We have great experience in our Comenius and Erasmus+ projects with students and teachers from several European countries. Also, we did a lot of other international projects in the past.
